Auschwitz I Museum

Auschwitz I is a memorial to the victims of the extermination of the German Nazis. Currently, it houses a museum devoted to the history of this place and the Auschwitz II Birkenau and Auschwitz III Monowitz camps associated with it. More than a million people lost their lives, most of them Jewish, as a result of unimaginable atrocities committed by the Nazis during World War II.

Auschwitz II Museum (Birkenau)

Auschwitz II is another testimony to the annihilation and genocide by the Nazis during World War II. In Auschwitz II, we can see the ruins of gas chambers and crematoria, as well as barracks where prisoners of German camps were kept in inhumane conditions. Millions of victims tortured, starved, killed in gas chambers or subjected to medical experiments. There is no excuse for this scale of cruelty.

Auschwitz III Monowitz

Auschwitz III Monowitz is the camp with the largest number of labor prisoners. Mostly people who could be used as labor were detained there. Many of them died of starvation or exhaustion. Many were also executed for not being fit for the job. A number of German concerns benefited from the effects of exploited human beings. Apart from Auschwitz I, Birkenau and Monowitz, there were about 40 more sub-camps, forming a complex of camps.

Why Go to Auschwitz?

Auschwitz is a place of remembrance for the victims of Nazi Germany. By visiting them, we pay tribute to those who died in the extermination camp. It is worth going to get to know the history, to keep the memory of the victims alive and to understand that this must never happen again.

Is The Auschwitz Museum free?

Auschwitz offers a pool of free tickets, but we recommend going there with an official guide-educator from the Museum, who will tell you about the history of the place and provide a lot of information that we are unable to find on our own visiting the Museum without a guide.

Is it worth it to take a guided tour at Auschwitz Birkenau?

Visiting the memorial site of the Auschwitz Museum with a museum guide is definitely a good choice. The guide shows visitors around the most important exhibitions, telling in detail and professionally about the history of the place. Independent sightseeing is difficult, so the best way to visit the museum is to go with a guide.
